Social Activities
Social activities provide an opportunity for people seeking asylum and refugees to experience fun activities that offer respite from the rigorous process of applying for asylum and the opportunity to connect with others.
House of Welcome runs a Social Activities program to support people and families seeking asylum and to provide respite during the stressful experience of the process to seek asylum. Stresses from this process and from past trauma, as well as social isolation and cultural barriers, can contribute to deteriorating mental health, financial instability and increase the risk of homelessness. The Social Activities program is designed to offer respite as well as ongoing connection between participants and the program volunteers, thus providing connections within the wider community for our clients settling in to life in Australia. Activities for the program are also selected to provide opportunities that would be inaccessible to clients at other times due to transport issues or ticket costs.
